Seacoast United Sports Club serves hundreds of communities across New England and many of those members within those communities are fighting a different type of fight. In the past several days, the country has witnessed yet another human life lost to the disease that is racism. Even though these recent events have yet again brought this topic to a national stage, this is something that communities across America have been dealing with for decades.
We have taken the time this week to listen as an organization and let other voices within the community be heard. As a custodian of these very communities, it is our responsibility to educate our young athletes on what is going on in the world and teach them right from wrong. We firmly believe that it is everyone’s basic right to feel accepted and safe in their own community. No human being should be judged by the color of their skin and the sad truth is racism is still very much alive locally, nationally and globally.
We are committed to providing a safe, accepting and educational environment for our young athletes and will continue to drive home the message that we must respect everyone’s diversity and dignity. We will never accept anything that contradicts this and we truly believe this will be the only way to reshape the world. As the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Our younger generations are that very light and we know they will continue to fight to put an end to this disease.
We Are United.
