The Seacoast United Mariners began their UPSL season on Saturday with an emphatic 9-0 win over Jaguars FC out of Massachusetts at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, Maine in front of a great home crowd for match day one!
The Mariners got on the front foot quickly, as they intercepted the opening kickoff and waltzed the ball into the goal just 21 seconds into the contest. The opening goal of the season was scored by former Seacoast United Maine standout Everett Horch (Brunswick, ME) who now plays at Bowdoin College.
Just 13 minutes later, St. Josephs College of Maine’s, Colin Grant (Harvard, MA) scored to make it 2-0. Back to back goals from Bowdoin Senior Drake Byrd (Simpsonville, SC) made the game 6-0.
The last 10 minutes of the contest allowed some of the current U-19s to enjoy their first Semi-Professional experiences and they enjoyed the opportunity. Trevor Swanbeck (Hebron, ME) scored off two great chances created and Alejandro Coury (Yarmouth, ME) put an exclamation mark on a 9-0 win for the Mariners. Cam Clark ended the night with 3 saves.
